drawing with light.
a stack of paper lies on a desk for some time and turns yellow. a spine of a book fades over the years - beyond our perception.
this light induced signs of aging are the research topic of fotografik.
we designed a laboratory to bleach paper with artificial light and to isolate this process from external conditions. at the beginning we experimented with different light sources and exposure times on a variety of papers. once we found the right setup we started to develop drawing tools. with this tools we created more and more complex pictures.
contextual, the pictures are in relation to their formation process - they show geometrical shapes between light and shadow, marked by light and shadow on paper.
at the moment of viewing, the images are already in the process of decay.

v.l.t.r.: transformer 230V-12V, halogen lamp, bracket, flag, glass plate, mask, paper, wood plate, clips, cardboard frame
exposure step one / 12 hours: the mask is placed directly on the paper. it creates a hard edge between the exposed and unexposed areas. the flag, placed between the lightsource and the paper, casts a blurred shadow. it makes the circle appear spherical.
Exposure step two / 24 hours: the mask is placed directly on the paper. sphere and shadow are protected from the light - only the background gets brighter.
final result / 36 hours exposed: sphere with shadow. a light source radiates from the upper left corner. the shadow connects the sphere with the ground.
cube + sphere + cylinder, 150 x 150 mm, origami paper. manufactured in 2 exposure steps. the top of cubes and cylinders are exposed 48h. the sphere and the cylinder are each exposed 24h.
transparent cube, 150 x 150 mm, origami paper. manufactured in 7 exposure steps. with this Picture a material characteristic is introduced – the cube seems to be transparent.
